Encouraging renewable energy is an important goal of the Government. Through taking part in the Feed-in-Tariff program, or through taking advantage of green energy such as geothermal, consumers can reduce their energy costs and take steps that are good for the environment.
In the case of schools and social housing, for example, this can help with lowering operating costs.
Through a coordinated procurement approach and by providing school boards and social housing providers with information about vendors, we can help them implement green energy solutions, and stimulate the creation of green jobs in Ontario.
The government is using all tools available to it, including the development of this vendor list, to attract and enhance investment in the province. This investment will help create new jobs in the province while also making our public facilities greener and more efficient.
What are the eligible renewable energy technologies that are included in this initiative?
Solar photovoltaic, solar air, solar water, small wind and geothermal.
What is the Renewable Energy Technology Vendor List?
The Vendor List is being compiled by the Ontario Power Authority and it will be comprised of renewable energy technology suppliers and service providers. It will be used by Ontario school boards and social housing providers to install $120 million of renewable energy projects in schools and social housing throughout the province.
Who should respond to the call to apply on the website?
All interested companies that are qualified to provide the eligible renewable energy technologies and that can meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply on the website.
What are the eligibility requirements to apply on the website?
Companies must provide all requested information on the website. This includes information on tax standing, insurance, and WSIB certification. Companies must also be able to meet specific requirements related to safety and installation standards and certain industry qualifications. Companies will not be included on the Vendor List if they fail to provide all the information and documentation requested or if they are unable to meet the specified eligibility requirements.
How will the vendor list be used?
The Vendor List will be provided to school boards and social housing providers to assist them in researching technologies, identifying high-quality products and selecting qualified vendors that can deliver on project timelines. School boards and social housing providers will use their own procurement processes to choose vendors for each project.
Will the vendors on the list be pre-qualified?
To be on the Vendor List, vendors will need to meet certain eligibility requirements such as having a positive tax standing, general liability insurance, and WSIB certification. Companies must also be able to meet specific requirements related to safety and installation standards and certain industry qualifications. Listed vendors will have fulfilled all the requirements to apply on the website by providing the information and documentation requested.
The Ontario Power Authority is providing a service to make available to school boards and social housing providers a catalogue of potential vendors in each geographic region of the province to assist them in implementing their renewable energy projects.
Until when is the $120 million available?
The funds will be available commencing April 2010 and they must be committed by March 31, 2011.
If I apply on the website, will I be able to get access to the entire vendor list?
Yes, listed vendors will have access to the entire Vendor List.
What information will be available about each vendor on the list?
The information on the Vendor List will be the same as is requested in the application process, except for certain information required to be eligible (such as tax status, insurance, etc.) and information identified as confidential.
If I don’t apply on the website by the deadline, will there be any future opportunities to get on the vendor list?
The application window ending 11:59pm on Tuesday November 23rd, 2010 will be the last opportunity to apply to the RET Vendor List under the current renewable energy stimulus funding initiative. Future uses for the list, if any, have not been decided.
Will vendors on this list be considered pre-qualified for the domestic content requirements of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program?
No. The vendor list created does not pre-qualify a company to meet the domestic content requirements of the FIT Program. Applicants who indicate they can provide solar photovoltaic goods and services are asked to provide domestic content information about the goods they manufacture/supply solely to provide information to school boards and social housing providers who may be interested in applying for an OPA Feed-in Tariff (FIT) or an OPA micro Feed-in Tariff (microFIT) contract. Applicants will not be evaluated based on the domestic content information they provide.
Proponents who apply to the OPA for a FIT contract shall be required to meet all the FIT Program requirements including domestic content requirements.
